There's a wonderful saying that I heard recently heard.
"Oh Dear one, I gave you this life because you are strong enough to live it"
When you consider the words in that statement, you can see a clear picture of God and His love for us. For me, when i read it, it depicted a chapter in life where many Christians find themselves at some point. The pages of this chapter are filled with "firsts", they are printed based on true events that require individuals to be more than they have ever been before.
Shepherds College in Union Grove WI, provides a post-secondary education for individuals with intellectual disabilities. 8 of these students along with 4 of our great faculty/leaders have heard the call from God to minister to the people of Jamaica this spring and so will embark on a new chapter in April. In doing so, they embark on a new journey; one that entrusts the "author and perfecter of our faith" to guide and direct.
Every week in preparation for this trip, the students meet with the faculty leadership team to explore the Jamaican culture, to prep Bible studies, and recently, to put together an amazing spaghetti dinner fundraiser! I was so encouraged by the students brief statements at this dinner. They are truly choosing to embody the love that 1 Corinthians 13 talks of. A love that is patient, and keeps no records of wrong; that does not boast and is not self-seeking. With the guidance of faculty leaders who love the Lord and inspire students and fellow faculty to be better than we are intending to be, this chapter will be penned.
If you wish to learn more about the mission of Shepherds College or to donate to the cause of Spring Break Immersion 2015 SC, Please contact Shepherds directly @ 1262-878-5620. Someone will be happy to direct you to one of the team leaders who can share with you the vision of the mission trip.
As I close out, I ask that you pray for this team. For Shepherds College this is a new experience, and we trust that God will teach each one of the students what they need to be taught to better serve Him. Pray for the faculty leaders as well, as they prep the team to go, arrange fundraisers, and encourage the students to seek God prior to departure.
For many students, this is the first time they have traveled out of America, let alone being in a new culture for a week long missions trip. But as believers we know God does not give us more than He knows we can handle. He gives us the strength to see these opportunities to fruition.
