In 2010, a term was coined by someone who had impacted American politics. The phrase, “Mama Grizzlies". The person: Governor Sarah Palin.
The term was inspired by the women (mothers mostly) who being energized by the Tea Party decided to take the "gloves and put the heels on" and run for public office. Well you can imagine, as the media heard this term used more and more often by Palin in her interviews and rallies with these brave women, all panic and fear mongering broke out. Was Palin trying to start a third party movement made entirely out of women? "Mama Grizzlies"?? First she puts targets on districts and now she labels women as carnivorous animals? The press and talk show hosts had a field day with this new term.
But let's take a look at some of these women.
One was just a lowly State Representative in South Carolina. Nikki Haley fought the status quo in the state house, allegations of infidelity, racist commentary, sexist accusations, and politics as usual in her run for governor. She overcame it all with grace and humility. In her first term she has brought thousands of jobs to her state and led the nations fight against Obamacare.
Another was just a small town mayor in Utah. Mia Love saw the greed and corruption in Washington and in 2012 ran for the United States Congress. Though she didn't succeed in her initial bid, she didn't let that be the end. She continued serving her hometown until the next election cycle. This year she once again is running for Congress. The daughter of Haitian immigrants, she understands immigration and has an incredibly unique plan to combat illegal immigration and create a legal way in which immigrants can garner citizenship.
There is also State Senator from Florida. Lizbeth Benacquisto is a woman of extreme conviction and purpose. She ran for the Flordia Senate in 2010 and has worked her way up to the Majority leader (2012-2014). She is strongly Pro-Life and has real life experiences that confirm her values. She has voted for legislation to better track criminals, allowing parents to turn failing public schools into charter schools, and a law making it illegal to picket by funerals.
Finally a woman from Nebraska who was a member of its Unicameral. Now United States Senator Deb Fischer sits in Washington and fights hard for lowered taxes, balanced budgets and military issues such as prevention of sexual assault in the military and provides better medical services to veterans.
All these women have something in common, more than an endorsement by Sarah Palin herself. They have the courage of there own convictions. They each bring real life scenarios to the table and from them, allow their conscience to assist in the governing. A new group of "Mama Grizzlies" has been endorsed for the 2014 elections. I believe they have what it takes to win back the Senate, keep the House, and maintain key governorship's in our states. We must pray for them as they seek to serve the great people of this Nation.
